SPOKANE — Allstate Insurance will auction a 1965 VW bus that was found 35 years after it was stolen from a Spokane woman.
The Spokesman-Review reports the company will donate the proceeds to an organization that helps homeless women and children.
Former owner Michele “Mikey” Squires had hoped to get her van back, but it belongs to the insurance company that paid off her $2,500 claim for the 1974 theft.
The van was being shipped to Germany in October when it was found by federal Customs agents at a Southern California port.
The German buyer of the restored van, which changed hands several times since its theft from a Spokane upholstery shop, is apparently out more than $20,000.
