SEATTLE — A forklift worker at the Port of Seattle and a man pressure-washing on a boat at a shipyard were killed in separate accidents Thursday in Seattle.
State Department of Labor and Industries spokesman Hector Castro says the fork lift operator was crushed between the fork lift and a container at SSA Marine at Terminal 18. Fire Department medics took him to Harborview Medical Center where he died.
The Seattle Times reported that the Longshore Union shut down Terminal 18 for 24 hours because of the death.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the death of the worker in the pressure Washington accident. It took place aboard a moored vessel and may have involved carbon dioxide poisoning.
