SEATTLE — The Washington State Department of Transportation says three lanes of I-5 through downtown Seattle have reopened. A multi-vehicle crash that authorities say was caused by driver inattention had closed the freeway for nearly an hour during morning rush hour.
The Washington State Patrol reports the Tuesday morning accident sparked a truck fire. There was at least one injury. A 67-year-old male was taken to Harborview Medical Center as a precaution.
Trooper Chris Webb says the crash was caused when a pickup driver dropped his cell phone and looked down to pick it up. Webb says when the pickup driver looked back up, traffic had stopped and he was unable to avoid crashing into the car in front of him.
A third vehicle also was struck.
