WARM BEACH — Christmas is more than a month away, but it’s already time to sign up to volunteer at the county’s biggest holiday lights extravaganza.
With more than 1 million lights making up the festive display, hundreds of volunteers are needed, and planning begins months before the switch is flipped to make all the tiny bulbs twinkle.
“We have volunteer opportunities all the time, through the year and leading up to the Lights of Christmas,” said Sarah Eschbach, a marketing associate at Warm Beach Christian Camp and Conference Center, the organization behind the annual event.
The center already is taking names for a weekend-long event scheduled for Nov. 27-30 to hang the lights and otherwise prepare the camp for thousands of visitors. Volunteers will test and hang holiday lights, set up displays, create garlands, wreaths and murals and complete other jobs.
Many people who volunteer to help deck the center’s halls also often volunteer during the event itself, Eschbach said. Lights of Christmas this year is scheduled for Dec. 4-7, 11-14, 17-23 and 26-28.
To volunteer, call Pat Patterson at 360-652-7575.
