Students from St. Mary Kevin Orphanage in Kajjansi, Uganda, are performing songs and dances at area schools.
Their visit is part of the Sister Schools program, which partners schools in Puget Sound with those in Uganda.
Each fall, local students learn what life is like at schools and orphanages in Uganda and then participate in school-supply and clothing drives to help out their sister schools.
Uganda has endured civil unrest and a high rate of HIV infections.
“People are getting infected and the parents die, so the kids are left without a mother and father,” said Michael Mayanja, orphanage manager at St. Mary Kevin.
Similar events are planned for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Maplewood Co-op in Edmonds and at 7:30 p.m. May 29 at Harbour Pointe Middle School in Mukilteo.
