Army 2nd Lt. Roger D. Eller has graduated from the U.S. Army Ranger School at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., with authorization to wear the distinctive Ranger Tab. Eller is a platoon leader assigned to the 1st Battalion, 509th Infantry, Fort Polk, Leesville, La. Eller, the son of Thomas and Linda Eller of Langley, has 10 years of military service. He graduated in 1992 from Coupeville High School and received a bachelor’s degree in 2002 from Pacific Lutheran University.

Air Force Cadet Matthew D. Mulica has earned honors with placement on the superintendent’s list at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. Mulica is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in business at the academy. He is the son of Carmen Mulica of Flower Mound, Texas, and brother of Tom Mulica of Seattle. Mulica is a 2001 graduate of Kamiak High School.

Army Reserve Pvt. Thomas M. Bahta has graduated from the automated logistical specialist training course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va. Bahta was trained to establish and maintain stock records and other documents such as inventory, materiel control, accounting and support reports and automated and manual accounting records. He is the son of Mesghina Bahta and Aster Woldemichael of Lynnwood and graduated in 2003 from Edmonds-Woodway High School.

Navy Seaman Apprentice Alfred A. Pono II recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Grate Lakes, Ill. The son of Liza and David Pono of Mountlake Terrace, the sailor is a 2001 graduate of Mountlake Terrace High School.

Two sailors with local ties have returned from deployment with the guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg. The cruiser’s crew includes Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Joshua B. Foy, whose wife, Diana, is the daughter of Debra and Robert Ewing of Oak Harbor, and Navy Lt. Cmdr. Marvin H. McGuire IV, who wife, Victoria, is the daughter of Marianne and Carlton Taylor of Oak Harbor. The Gettysburg deployed with the USS Enterprise Carrier Strike Group, the first to deploy since the end of major operations in Iraq.
