DARRINGTON — The second annual StrutzFest offers a chance to hear well-known tribute bands pay homage to the likes of Jimi Hendrix, ZZ Top, Heart, Neil Diamond, AC/DC and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Arlington’s hometown classic rock band, Strutz, also is scheduled to be joined at the summer festival by Northwest regional cover bands that include the Magic Bus.
While enjoying concerts set for Friday and Saturday at the Whitehorse Mountain Amphitheater near Darrington, the paying audience also is contributing to programs that help children, Strutz leader and festival organizer Toby Strotz said.
The Mike Turner Memorial Foundation, sponsor of the festival, plans to contribute proceeds from the event to Seattle Children’s hospital, Special Olympics and local charities that benefit children, Strotz said.
“It’s a beautiful venue, a chance to have fun listening to some good bands and an opportunity to come together to help kids,” he said. “Everybody had a great time last year and ticket sales are way up for this year.”
Bands scheduled to play on the main stage at StrutzFest include Hell’s Belles, Whiskey Creek, Randy Hansen, El Loco, Blue Tattoo, Heartless, Cherry Cherry, the Beatniks and Shyanne.
“A lot of people work hard to make this happen,” said Strotz, who started his band in the 1980s. “Our goal is give back to the community in memory of friends who gave a lot.”
