Adopt A Stream will host bat and bird events on Saturday

Get an introduction to birding or learn about the benefits of bats at the Northwest Stream Center.

EVERETT — Adopt A Stream Foundation is hosting two events on Saturday for bird and bat enthusiasts alike.

From 10 a.m. to noon at the Northwest Stream Center, 600 128th St. SE, Audubon Society master birder Gale Boyer will lead an introductory session on birding before leading a walk along the center’s boardwalk. Participants are encouraged to bring their own binoculars.

At 1 p.m., Barbara Ogaard, a researcher at Bat’s Northwest who rehabilitates injured bats, will present at the stream center. Also known as “The Bat Lady,” Ogaard will discuss the benefits of bats, and some real-life bats will make an appearance during the presentation.

“The Bat Lady puts on quite a show,” said Adopt A Stream Foundation Director Tom Murdoch. “Barbara has this unique ability to engage little kids and old graybeards at the same time.”

In the spirit of Halloween, guests who arrive in costume will receive a free salmon poster.

Admission for each event is $8 for members and $10 for non-members. Call 425-316-8592 or go to www.streamkeeper.org for reservations.
