Republican Greg Anders of Bellingham announced today he is getting out of the race for the 1st Congressional District seat.
In a statement, he said that in recent days “it has become clear that I will no longer be able to give my campaign for Congress the complete attention it deserves.
“My decision to withdraw from the race does not come lightly but after much discussion with supporters, close advisors and especially family. It is time for me to step aside to allow others to carry the message of freedom, rule of law and prosperity forward. Rest assured, those who espouse those principles will always have my ardent support.”
Anders was one of three Republicans in the crowded field of candidates vying to succeed U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee in the district that includes large swaths of Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom and King counties.
He was not pressured into the decision, campaign officials said.
Anders did not endorse either of the other GOP candidates, Snohomish County Councilman John Koster or Kirkland business consultant James Watkins.
