CASA fits over 220 pets with microchips
Volunteers and staff at the nonprofit Camano Animal Shelter Association were busy Oct. 24 as they fitted cats and dogs with free microchips. By the end of the day, 132 dogs and 45 cats had received the free service at the Camano Island shelter. The previous weekend’s cat-only microchip clinic fitted 44 pets.
“Together with the generous event sponsors, CASA was able to give the gift of free microchips to 221 pets over the two Saturdays. This is a rather unheard of number,” shelter Manager Tegan Locker said.
Sponsors included Windermere Real Estate of Camano Island and Stanwood, State Farm Leslie Tripp Agency, Windermere Real Estate agent Linda Evans, and Thomas and Associates Insurance Broker.
CASA offers daily low-cost microchipping at the shelter for $25 per pet. Learn more at www.camanoanimalshelter.com.

Steven Greenebaum and Cathy Merchant of Interfaith Church of Lynnwood were among the workshop presenters at the 2015 Parliament of the World’s Religions, held Oct. 15-19 in Salt Lake City, Utah, a gathering of individuals and groups who share common goals including promoting interreligious harmony. An estimated 10,000 people were expected to participate.
The Lynnwood church’s workshop was “Spiritual Humility: The Faith of Interfaith,” which explored interfaith theology and included an example of an interfaith worship service.
Beds for kids
The Hazel Miller Foundation recently donated $3,000 to St. Vincent de Paul North Sound Council, to purchase beds for children who are otherwise sleeping on the floor in their homes.
The St. Vincent de Paul program puts all of the proceeds directly into the program.
