Edmonds: Senior health fair April 30

The South County Senior Center in Edmonds has scheduled a health fair for April 30.

The event, titled “Life is Change … Prepare For It,” is planned for from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the center, 220 Railroad Ave.

Representatives of more than 45 senior-focused health and service organizations from the area, including Stevens Hospital and Northwest Hospital, plan to be on hand. They’ll answer questions, provide referrals and put on demonstrations and presentations.

A box lunch is available from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. — $2.50 for those 60 and over, $5.75 for anyone younger.

Everett: VOA names new board members

Barbara Earl of BETS Consulting is the new chairwoman of the board of directors for Volunteers of America Western Washington. She has served on the board since 2002 and served as the vice chairwoman for three years.

Richard Toyer of Toyer &Associates serves as the treasurer. Toyer has a background in finance and has been active on the board of directors since 1998.

Betty Cobbs, director of human resources at the Everett School District, serves as secretary. Cobbs has a background in education and has served on the board of directors since 2004.

Lynnwood: Church plans indoor egg hunt

Silver Creek Family Church is planning an Indoor Egg Hunt for Saturday.

The event is 1 to 3 p.m. at the church, 15326 176th St. SW.

One hunt will be for preschool children and another for elementary-school-age children. The church also plans to have three large inflatable toys, a magician and balloon animal maker. Cotton candy, popcorn, hot dogs, chips and beverages also are planned.

Sultan: Look for a refund on garbage bill

City garbage customers will see a refund on their April utility bill. The City Council adopted new garbage rates that went into effect Feb. 1. During the billing set-up, a city employee discovered an error that effectively raised rates by more than 20 percent. Customers should received a refund of up to $14 on their April bill.

Monroe: Garden club offers scholarship

The Monroe Garden Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship for a person in Monroe pursuing a career in horticulture. First consideration will be given to a Monroe High School student. Applications are available at the high school or by calling Mildred Ness at 360-794-8319. The scholarship is paid for by proceeds from the May 9 garden sale at the East County Senior Center, 824 Village Way.
