Arrest warrant issued in Seattle schools scandal

SEATTLE — An arrest warrant has been issued for a former Seattle schools employee who is accused of being the central figure in a Seattle Public Schools financial scandal.

The Seattle Times reports Silas Potter Jr. failed to appear for arraignment Tuesday.

Two other defendants, David A. Johnson and Lorrie Kay Sorensen, pleaded not guilty to theft charges during a brief hearing in King County Superior Court.

Potter headed the district’s small-business assistance program before moving to Florida, had been scheduled to enter a plea to theft charges filed by King County prosecutors.

All three defendants had been summoned for arraignment on felony theft charges after being charged Oct. 25 with stealing from the district’s small-business program.
