FORT LEWIS – Some Fort Lewis families’ Christmas will be more joyful as 195 soldiers returned home this week after a yearlong deployment in Iraq.
The 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion, 201st Military Intelligence Brigade, was greeted by family and friends Thursday evening in a homecoming ceremony at Jensen Gym.
The battalion was sent to Iraq in January and was stationed at Camp Victory near the Baghdad airport to provided intelligence support for American and coalition forces.
The unit returned to Fort Lewis two days after a suicide bombing that killed 22 people, including 14 U.S. service members, at a dining hall ata military base near the northern city of Mosul, the deadliest single attack on a U.S. base in Iraq.
