EVERETT — Lyrics reportedly written and performed by a blind rapper on the lam seem to be challenging police to find him.
The song is called “Catch Me If You Can.”
Someone who has contacted The Daily Herald via an Everett-based Bass Rock Records email address said the song is by Mac Wayne, whose real name is Wayne Frisby.
There is a $250,000 Snohomish County Superior Court warrant for Frisby’s arrest after he skipped town while facing a robbery charge.
A judge signed the warrant March 8 after prosecutors accused Frisby of first-degree robbery and drug possession in connection with a bizarre holdup in February. At the time, a Snohomish County deputy prosecutor told the judge that Frisby had fled the area and may be in California or Las Vegas.
The Bass Rock Records email said that “Catch Me If You Can” is “Mac Wayne’s only official response to (the) allegations.” The email writer said it was unclear where the song was recorded.
The email said that any money made from an upcoming Mac Wayne album, “Yay Charles — The Retainer,” will be used to pay attorney fees and that an attorney will be contacting authorities in coming weeks. No mention is made about the outstanding bail.
“Catch Me If You Can” makes reference to a criminal investigation and the rapper’s decision to flee. It refers to “detectives in my mama’s house,” making the front page, a decision “to split out of town” and police trying to get “the Ginger Bread Man.”
The refrain chides: “I’m on the run. Catch me if you can.”
A man claiming to be the suspect denied committing the robbery in a telephone call to The Herald newsroom earlier this month.
Officials from the Marysville Police Department, which has been investigating the robbery allegations, could not be reached for comment Friday.
Prosecutors have accused Frisby, 28, of robbing a woman of her car keys. They also allege that he cut off a handful of her hair and threatened to stab her if she didn’t comply with his demands.
The woman told police she had parked her car and met up with an Arlington woman. They were headed to another location when the Arlington woman stopped her car. Prosecutors allege that Frisby opened the passenger door and robbed the woman.
She said he threatened to kill her if she didn’t hand over her keys. He also cut off part of her hair, court papers said.
Frisby and the Arlington woman left the other woman on the side of the road, according to prosecutors. She called police. Officers located a clump of hair in the street. Police also determined that her car was missing from the parking lot.
Frisby and the Arlington woman were arrested later that night in Everett. While being booked in jail, Frisby reportedly handed over some methamphetamine, cocaine and heroin he had hidden in his clothing.
Prosecutors also have said that Frisby is under investigation for a shooting and possible ties to a group of people connected to the stabbing death of a Marysville man.
