When it comes to Super Bowl commercials, you can never go wrong with talking animals. And if you’ve got cute talking animals, you’re looking as cool as Marvin Harrison hauling in a Peyton Manning pass.
Blockbuster’s online video service may still lack in quality compared to Netflix, but its ad on Super Bowl Sunday, featuring a bunny and a guinea pig trying to click an actual mouse in that hopes that it will get them onto the Internet was the best among an odd and overall disappointing lot of “Super” spots. With companies paying as much as a reported $2.6 million for a 30-second slot, the pickin’s were definitely slim.
On a more realistic note, Toyota’s ads for its heavy-duty pickup truck, the Tundra, were impressive as they claimed to be actual demonstrations showing the truck doing remarkable things like towing huge loads, picking up speed and maintaining enough control to stop before going off the edge of a cliff. Good times.
An advertising agency is hosting a public vote online to see which ad was the big winner. You find it here: http://www.spotbowl.com/
