ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Anchorage police and firefighters responding to a vehicle fire found a body inside the burning van.
The van was found burning Thursday night, KTUU-TV reported.
Employees of Chong’s Tokyo Garden reported that the van was on fire in the 500 block of West Tudor Ave, Police Sgt. Michael Couturier said. The vehicle was parked behind the restaurant. Police say the restaurant employees were not aware there was a body inside the van.
Police say it is too early to determine if foul play was involved. They say the van was recently sold to someone who had not yet registered it. Investigators are trying to track down the owner.
Police said in a Friday release that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death and the victim’s identity. Police couldn’t identify the man because of the condition of the body after the fire.
Eyewitnesses told police that a man had been living in the van.
Police and the Anchorage Fire Department continue to investigate.
