CAMANO ISLAND — Fire Chief Mike Ganz is retiring after 38 years as a firefighter.
The commissioners at Camano Island Fire and Rescue are working to hire a new chief.
Ganz joined the department about nine years ago.
He plans to retire Aug. 1. In a department news release, Ganz was described as a quiet, calm leader who cares deeply about the community.
Issaquah-based Prothman Co. was hired to conduct a chief search. An open house with five candidates is set for 7 p.m. Sunday at the Vista/Madrona fire station, 273 N. West Camano Drive.
