OLYMPIA — The candidates for Washington’s 1st Congressional District have reported raising a combined $1 million already.
The race for the seat being vacated by Rep. Jay Inslee is now drawing close interest because of a redistricting plan approved on New Year’s Day that makes the district a toss-up between Republicans and Democrats.
Candidates reported this week their fundraising totals through the end of 2011, including several Democrats in the race. Former state Rep. Laura Ruderman had raised $258,000, state Rep. Roger Goodman brought in $209,000, businessman Darshan Rauniyar reported $140,000, political activist Darcy Burner brought in $128,000 and state Sen. Steve Hobbs totaled $115,000. Susan DelBene entered the race about three weeks ago and says she has raised more than $120,000.
Leading Republican candidate John Koster, a Snohomish County Councilman, has reported raising $224,000 and has about half of that money left to spend.
