NEW YORK — Broadway no longer beckons for the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
New York City is trying to figure out where to put those big balloons and floats come November.
Broadway becomes a pedestrian-only zone around Times Square and Herald Square this spring. The goal is to make the city greener, safer and less congested.
Officials are considering moving portions of the parade onto avenues just east or west of Broadway. They want to keep it closer to the original route.
The 2.5-mile route starts at Central Park West and West 77th Street. It has ended at Herald Square, in front of Macy’s flagship store.
