Ceremonies honor veterans this weekend

The following events are planned on and around Veterans Day this weekend:

Bothell: Music by the Woodinville Community Band, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Northshore Senior Center, 10201 E. Riverside Drive.

Everett: To honor veterans, an American Heritage Flag Display will be on view from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Everett Mall.

Everett: The Snohomish County Central Memorial Day Committee offers a Veterans Day service at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Snohomish County Courthouse Eternal Flame at 3000 Rockefeller Ave.

Everett: The congregation of Evergrace Fellowship Church has invited Sgt. Maj. John Casprowitz (retired), wounded Purple Heart veteran of the Vietnam War and Marysville resident, to speak at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at 2215 Broadway, in the Child Evangelism Fellowship Building. The public is welcome.

Everett: A Veterans Day Memorial Service, "United We Remember," is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park, 1615 SE Everett Mall Way. It is sponsored by Cypress Lawn Memorial Park and Purdy and Walters with Cassidy Funeral Home.

Marysville: Local author and veteran Richard Ekstedt will sign copies of his book "Beyond the Green Line" at 1 p.m. Saturday at The BookWorks, 1510 Third St. The novel is based on his experiences in Vietnam.

Seattle: The Northwest chapter of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society, in partnership with the Museum of Flight, will continue the Museum’s American Air Heroes speaker series with a presentation by Vietnam-era fighter pilot Jonathan Hayes at 7 p.m. Nov. 15 in the Museum Theater at 9404 E. Marginal Way S. Hayes flew 100 combat missions over North Vietnam starting in 1967. He will give a pilot’s-eye view of Operation Rolling Thunder, President Lyndon Johnson’s controversial and ultimately failed campaign to destroy North Vietnam’s will to fight through sustained bombing. The museum honors veterans from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday with the Boeing Employees’ Concert Band at 12:30 p.m.; Wesley Schierman, a Vietnam POW, at 2 p.m.; and Blackjack Squadron flybys from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Seattle: A Veterans Day Service of Remembrance is planned at 10:45 a.m. Sunday at Evergreen-Washelli Memorial Park, Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 11111 Aurora Ave. N. TV news anchor Susan Hutchison is the featured speaker.

Snohomish: Hearthside of Snohomish honors 20 resident veterans at 11 this morning at 1124 Pine Ave.

Washington state: There is free admission to the Mount St. Helen’s Visitor Center Saturday through Monday. Launch your boat for free at all state park launches Saturday and Sunday, and there will be no camping or boat moorage fees Sunday.
