CHEHALIS — The director of the W.F. West High School band in Chehalis, Geoff Gilbert, was killed in traffic accident.
The school district says in four years with the district Gilbert also taught elementary school beginning band students. He was a member of the Yakima Symphony and Brass Ensemble, Northwest Wind Symphony and a substitute with the Olympia Jazz Senators.
Gilbert was a graduate of Central Washington University and performed 10 years with the U.S. Navy band.
The 42-year-old Napavine man was headed home early Tuesday from a Jazz Senators performance in Olympia when his motorcycle rear-ended a pickup truck in foggy conditions on Interstate 5.
His wife Angela is the school district’s choral director. He also leaves three daughters.
