Chelan SWAT team gets Army MRAP armored vehicle

WENATCHEE — An armored vehicle that was built for the Army at a cost of $658,000 to protect soldiers against roadside bombs is now the property of the Chelan County sheriff’s office.

Sheriff Brian Burnett says the department acquired the MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle last Wednesday through the Army service that disposes of excess property.

The 2008 MRAP has less than 9,500 miles on the odometer. It will be used by the county SWAT team.
