JUNEAU, Alaska — The Coast Guard icebreaker Polar Sea is en route back to its homeport in Seattle after a 101-day mission in the Arctic.
The cutter will dock in Juneau, where public tours are scheduled today and Thursday.
The crew’s scientific mission included recapturing polar bears that were tagged with radio callers in the spring to check on how far they traveled. It’s part of a study looking at the polar bears’ ability to adapt to their changing environment because of global warming.
The Polar Sea is schedule to depart Juneau on Friday.
