Collection of Coleman products gets a little bigger

Earlier this month we wrote about Crystal Harman375DB7185214E0C8 of Arlington and her Coleman products collection.

Who knew there were 100 years of Coleman stuff for folks to gather?

Lots of people.

Dan Meeks, who owns Ace Hardware in Granite Falls, so happens to have about 50 old Coleman lanterns hung from the ceiling of his store.

And super nice Bob Reis of Arlington not only had a find, he gave it to Harman.

“I have a very old Coleman lantern (circa 1930 or 1940) that is just gathering dust in my garage,” Reis said. “I also have two ‘round’ globes for old Colemans that would be part of the package, also.”

After the pair got together and he gave Harman the goods, Reis said he didn’t know who benefitted more, Harman for adding to her collection or himself for clearing out “stuff” that had been sitting on a shelf for 30 years.

And this fabulous e-mail rolled in: “Where does one find the person who wants Coleman camping equipment? I have an original lantern and stove over 40 years old, but have nothing to do with them as I now use propane.”

Who was the note from?

Steve Coleman. We triple checked and that’s his name.

He says he likes to buy Coleman products because of the free monogram.

Saturday’s walk in Tulalip for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation was a success.

Organizer Brandy Krug said they raised more than $20,000 for the cause. Her daughter, Brenna, suffers from the disease.

Last year there were 75 walkers. This year, 168 registered for the fundraiser.

Other organizers included Scott Perrault, Kelsie Dry, Dan Pablo Jr. and Allison Thrasher.

“Our hard work paid off tremendously,” Krug says. “We had so many volunteers help out the day of the event. It was amazing. This community is awesome, and the overwhelming support warms my heart. Everyone was great and the event was something for everyone to enjoy.”

Providing a gift bag for participants at a charity golf event may seem sissified, at first blush, but the Stanwood Chamber of Commerce has been ever so thoughtful bagging the goodies.

Executive Director Stacy Johnson says the sixth annual Golf Classic is planned for 8 a.m. July 30 at Kayak Point Golf Course south of Stanwood.

For more information, go to www.stanwoodchamber.org or call 360-629-0562.

Interested in the goodie bag?

“Well here’s what we have so far,” Johnson says. “Tees, golf balls, air fresheners, lip balm, key chains, pens, snacks, note pads, a cup holder, mini tool kit, hand sanitizer and business card holder.”

Those are thoughtful gifts. The Classic is sponsored by Sterling Savings Bank. And Golf Savings Bank.

One website could use a geography lesson — CNN.com.

In a Thursday story about Colton Harris-Moore, it reads that Camano Island is a vacation community of about 15,000 people off the Washington state coast.

That could be close on the population, but the last time we looked west from a Camano Island bluff, we saw Whidbey Island, not the Pacific Ocean.
