Here’s a roundup of some of the more interesting recent neighborhood crime news from throughout Snohomish and Island counties, provided by police:

Everett

* 8600 block of Evergreen Way, Aug. 27. Police arrested a man who had mistreated his dog and caused a disturbance at the Black Angus reataurant. The man, 24, reportedly dragged the puppy across the road. He was booked into the county jail. The puppy was taken to an animal shelter, where it appeared emaciated and infested with fleas.

* 1800 block of Ross Avenue, Aug. 27. A man told police someone stole fishing gear from a boat moored at Dagmar’s Marina. Two downriggers and about 10 fishing lures, valued at $1,150, were taken.

* 8800 block of Corbin Drive, Aug. 28. Residents reported that someone in a black Honda Prelude shot green paintballs at houses in the neighborhood. One resident provided police with a videotape of the suspect’s vehicle.

* 2900 block of 36th Street, Aug. 29. Police arrested an Arlington man, 26, after a security guard spotted him walking around the fence at the Everett Police Department impound yard. The man reportedly told officers he was going to steal stereos from the cars. Police found burglary tools in the man’s backpack. He was booked into the county jail under investigation of possession of burglary tools.

* 3000 block of Ninth Street, Aug. 29. Money was reported stolen from an apartment vending machine. According to police, the suspects covered the surveillance camera at the Rivers Landing Apartments before breaking into the soda machine.

* 1300 block of SE Everett Mall Way, Aug. 30. Police arrested a man who had shoplifted a $54.99 pair of Converse shoes from Sears. During a search of the man, 21, police found cocaine. The man also had warrants for his arrest. He was booked into the county jail.

* 1700 block of Merrill Creek Parkway, Aug. 30. A golf cart and cordless drill were reported stolen from a maintenance shed. It appears that the thief kicked in the door. The loss was estimated at nearly $4,000.

* 3800 block of High Street, Aug. 31. A John Deere chain saw was reported stolen from a shed. The resident also noticed that three boxes from the shed were stacked at the end of the driveway. The loss was estimated at $600.

* 1300 block of 100th Place SE, Aug. 31. A teen reported that someone stole his motorized scooter from outside his friend’s house. The scooter was valued at $250.

* 25th Street and Broadway, Sept. 1. An uncooperative bicyclist was arrested after he refused to stop for a police officer. The man, 21, was apprehended by police and reportedly fought with officers until he was handcuffed. He was booked into the county jail under investigation for obstructing a police officer and an warrant out of Seattle.

Crashes, speeding down near Everett traffic cameras

Data shared by the city showed that crashes have declined near its red light cameras and speeds have decreased near its speeding cameras.

Everett proposes law to help close unpermitted food carts

The ordinance would make it a misdemeanor to operate food stands without a permit, in an attempt to curb the spread of the stands officials say can be dangerous.

Everett Transit releases draft of long-range plan

The document outlines a potential 25% increase in bus service through 2045 if voters approve future 0.3% sales tax increase.

Just before 1 a.m., Everett police responded to a report of a stabbing in the 2600 block of Wetmore Avenue.

On Monday, Edmonds police arrested the 46-year-old after a student’s parents found inappropriate messages on their daughter’s phone.

A former Everett mayor helped save a man. He didn’t realize he knew him.

Ray Stephanson performed CPR after Matthew Minahan had a heart attack. Minahan had cared for Stephanson’s father as a nurse.
