EVERETT — The groom-to-be who was arrested for making fake checks to pay for his wedding might have had help, according to police.
Snohomish County sheriff’s detectives are asking for the public’s help to find a man who was seen on surveillance videos at department stores where fake checks were passed.
"He is a suspect in contributing to part of the conspiracy," deputy Richard Niebusch said.
Police arrested the groom-to-be Thursday, alleging that he made more than a dozen checks and used someone else’s driver’s license in a two-day, nearly $10,000 shopping spree.
According to court documents, the man made the checks to buy things for his wedding, including a ring, flower girl dresses and suits. He told a bridal shop he was getting married March 6.
A sheriff’s detective recognized him in one of the surveillance videos as the same man who was convicted four years ago for more than 100 burglaries in Snohomish and Skagit counties, Neibusch said.
Detectives also saw a second man in the videos writing the fraudulent checks, according to court documents.
He is described as a white man, in his 40s with a full gray beard. He is about 6 feet tall and 185 to 190 pounds.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s tip line at 425-388-3845.
A woman, who is believed to be the bride-to-be, was also seen in the videos. She has been questioned but was not arrested, Niebusch said.
It was not clear if the wedding went on as scheduled, he said.
