BOTHELL — The cold snap that moved through Snohomish County dumped enough snow to cancel school in Stanwood Monday and made roads slicks, causing a number of accidents.
A Snohomish County deputy suffered minor injuries early Monday morning when his patrol car hit an ice patch and skidded off the road during a traffic pursuit.
More than 80 collisions were reported along I-5 from the south Snohomish County line to the Canadian border, said trooper Keith Leary, a Washington State Patrol spokesman.
The crash involving the deputy happened after he attempted to pull over a recklessly driven black Honda Civic just after midnight near the intersection of 108th Street SE and the Bothell-Everett Highway, sheriff’s Lt. Kathi Lang said.
A few miles later, the deputy’s patrol car hit some ice at the intersection of 185th Street SE and 35th Avenue SE and left the road, Lang said.
The deputy was taken to a local hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries. He was treated and released, sheriff’s spokeswoman Rebecca Hover said.
The suspect fled.
Problems on the roads should ease as temperatures in the low-lands are forecast to climb into the mid-40s this week.
A winter storm warning was posted for the Cascades through this evening. Several feet of fresh snow are expected and avalanche danger is high, forecasters said.
