MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — A 27-year-old Cheney man was booked into Snohomish County Jail Monday night on investigation of a hit-and-run traffic crash that sent four people to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The crash occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on I-5 southbound near 220th Street SW, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The man, driving a 2001 Mercury Sable, collided with a 2001 Dodge Caravan driven by Efrosini Panagiotopoulos, 36, of Lynnwood, the patrol said.
The man allegedly fled the scene and was arrested later that night, the patrol said. The Herald is withholding his name because charges have not yet been filed.
Panagiotopoulos suffered an ankle injury. Three youths in her van also were injured: a 10-year-old girl suffered a wrist injury, a 6-year-old boy suffered a broken leg, and a 15-year-old girl suffered ankle injuries. All were listed in satisfactory condition at Harborview early Tuesday.
The crash backed up traffic for several hours.
Stolen car found: A 20-year-old Marysville man was jailed after police discovered the vehicle he was driving had been stolen moments earlier.
The incident occurred Sunday about 8:45 a.m. when Snohomish police Officer Larry Marshall stopped a vehicle for an alleged equipment violation. He discovered that the driver’s license was suspended and a felony warrant had been issued for his arrest.
During subsequent investigation, Marshall discovered the vehicle had been stolen from a Snohomish address shortly before the traffic stop. A filed key was in the ignition and numerous burglary tools were in the vehicle, Marshall said. He also found drug paraphernalia and 7 grams of methamphetamine in the vehicle.
New police station to open: City and police officials plan to show off the new South Precinct facility at 1121 SE Everett Mall Way today with a ribbon-cutting and open house.
The ceremony will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. today. Open house and public reception will follow and continue until 2 p.m.
The building will house about 50 police personnel, as well as the SNOPAC emergency 911 center and Snohomish County Emergency Radio System center. About 8,000 square feet of the building are leased to Genuity for a data center.
