MILL CREEK – One man died and four people were taken to the hospital Sunday after a head-on crash on Highway 96, the Washington State Patrol said.
Just after noon, a black 1991 Honda Prelude headed east apparently crossed the centerline and smashed head-on into a green Toyota minivan, State Patrol trooper Kirk Rudeen said.
The Honda’s driver, a man in his mid- to late 30s, was critically wounded. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he was pronounced dead, Rudeen said.
The four people in the minivan – apparently a family from Bothell – were taken to Providence Everett Medical Center Colby campus, he said. The family was in fair condition as of Sunday evening, said a nursing supervisor, who refused to give her name.
Police found some items in the Honda that lead investigators to believe drugs may have been a factor in the crash, Rudeen said.
Police have identified the woman who died when she ran into traffic Friday on I-405 as Kaisa Lauren Larson, 26, of Seattle.
The woman had been asked to leave a Kirkland bar early Friday. Kirkland police put her into a taxi to take her to a friend’s house in Lynnwood.
The cab driver pulled over to the shoulder when Larson reportedly became agitated.
The driver tried to calm her down but for some reason she left the cab, Washington State Patrol trooper Kirk Rudeen said.
She ran into traffic and was hit by three vehicles, Rudeen said. Larson, who police say was drunk, died at the scene.
