EDMONDS — A man accused of stabbing and killing a man in a carjacking was arrested with self-inflicted injuries Thursday in Seattle, police said.
Around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, a 37-year-old man was walking in a parking lot in the 21900 block of Highway 99 when Ian Bramel-Allen, 43, stabbed him, Edmonds police Cmdr. Josh McClure said.
The assailant then reportedly stole the slain man’s Kia Sorento and fled the lot. The 37-year-old man died at the scene before he could be transported by ambulance, McClure said.
Around 10 p.m., police tweeted the vehicle’s license plate, advising anyone who saw the driver: “DO NOT APPROACH!!! Call 911 if seen.”
Hours later, they released pictures of Bramel-Allen, along with security footage of the suspect wearing a gray beanie, gray hoodie, jeans and brown boots.
The Kia was found abandoned early Thursday near Volunteer Park in Seattle, Edmonds police said. After “an alert community member” called 911, police found the suspect, who tried to flee on foot, police said. Officers chased down Bramel-Allen and arrested him for investigation of first-degree murder and first-degree robbery.
Bramel-Allen had a “self-inflicted injury” when he was detained, according to McClure. He was taken to a nearby hospital for his wounds before being turned over to Edmonds police.
Investigators believe the incident was “likely not a random attack,” but that the suspect and slain man knew each other, McClure said.
It remained an active investigation Thursday.
