STEVENS PASS — Drivers and hikers are being warned of possible near-whiteout conditions from expected snow-bursts at Stevens Pass today and Thursday.
Between 2 to 5 inches of snow is expected to fall on the western slopes of the North Cascades at levels above 3,500 to 4,000 feet. Around 7 to 10 inches of snow is expected to fall in the Glacier Peak area of Snohomish County, according to the National Weather Service.
The snow is expected to fall in quick bursts, creating near-whiteout conditions. Drivers on Stevens Pass should slow down and be prepared for winter driving conditions, and hikers and campers should also be prepared, the weather service said.
The snow advisory is in effect until 5 a.m. Thursday.
In the lowlands of Snohomish County, the weather service is predicting rain and thunderstorms this afternoon with a high of 53 degrees. Rain is expected tonight and Thursday, and Friday is forecasted to be partly sunny with a high of 57 degrees.
The weather through early next week is forecasted as cloudy with rain likely, with daytime highs in the upper 50s and nightly temperatures in the upper 40s.
