Edmonds, MLT residents robbed at gunpoint

EDMONDS — Edmonds and Mountlake Terrace police are investigating two similar armed robberies that occurred minutes apart Monday night.

The Edmonds robbery occurred about 9:10 p.m. as a 35-year-old Edmonds man got off a bus at 240th Street SW and 84th Avenue W., Sgt. Jerry Gannon said Tuesday. A man approached the victim and asked him for change for a dollar. The victim said he didn’t have it. A second man ran up behind the victim from a mobile home park.

The victim began to walk away on 240th toward Edmonds Way, trying to put some distance between him and the two men, Gannon said. When he turned to look, both men were directly behind him. The first man again asked for change, and the second man pulled out a pistol and said, "You know you can do better than that," Gannon said.

The two men threatened the victim, then took the cash in his pockets and his cell phone, Gannon said. The robbers ran east on 240th, and the victim went home and called 911, he said.

Police described the first robber as a black man, about 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, wearing gray shorts with a dark, striped T-shirt. The second robber was black, about 5-foot-8, 180 pounds, with a stocky build. He was wearing blue jeans.

While police were gathering details of the robbery, they learned of a similar incident at the Homestead Motel in Mountlake Terrace, Gannon said. No details were available Tuesday on that robbery.
