EVERETT – The City Council will meet in special session Sept. 2 to select someone to replace Councilman Doug Campbell, who is resigning his post to return to his native Nebraska.
The council had planned to interview finalists for Campbell’s seat Aug. 18, and later that day vote to choose a new council member to take office after Campbell formally resigns Sept. 1. But council members discovered they cannot select a new member until after Campbell resigns, so the date was changed.
The city is now accepting applications for the position. Whoever is appointed will have to run next year to complete the second half of Campbell’s four-year term, which expires at the end of 2007.
Applications should be sent to Everett City Clerk, 2930 Wetmore Ave., First Floor, Everett, WA 98201. Put “City Council Position No. 5” on the envelope. All applications must be received by 5 p.m. Aug. 11.
A City Council screening committee that includes City Council President Arlan Hatloe and council members Marian Krell and Mark Olson will present a narrowed-down list of candidates to the full council. The council will then meet in special session at 10 a.m. Sept. 2 in City Council chambers, 3002 Wetmore Ave., to interview candidates and select the new council member.
The new council member will be sworn in Sept. 8.
