EVERETT — A young Everett man is facing months of recovery after being struck by a car on Broadway Aug. 13.
James “Patrick” Boyer, 18, is home from the hospital. His plan to leave for basic training for the U.S. Air Force is delayed, said his mother, Sarah Schudel-Boyer.
Police are looking for the driver that struck him and took off.
Detectives believe the car may be a black Cadillac from 1992 to 1997. However, they “are not ruling out other vehicle types,” Everett officer Aaron Snell said.
The family is asking anyone with information to come forward. They also are accepting donations for medical expenses.
The crash happened about 9 p.m. in the 6900 block of Broadway. The car, which lost a side mirror, kept going southbound. The number for tips, including anonymous calls, is 425-257-8450.
The family is not sure how much insurance will cover. Boyer underwent a battery of tests at the hospital and faces weeks of medical appointments. The fundraiser is online at www.gofundme.com/2k8c86c.
So far, Boyer has no signs of lasting neurological damage but is still being monitored, Schudel-Boyer said. He suffered a concussion and has dozens of staples from various injuries.
Earlier this week, a sergeant from the Air Force came by to see Boyer and gave him a medal. The sergeant told the family the military will wait for him to recover.
