Everett man dies when truck hits retaining wall

EVERETT – An Everett man was killed Sunday afternoon after his truck veered off E. Marine View Drive and crashed into a retaining wall, police said.

The man, 49, was driving south when his truck went off the road and hit the retaining wall, narrowly missing a row of parked cars, said Everett Police Sgt. Boyd Bryant.

The pickup then crossed two lanes before ending up against a fence on the east side of the road in the 700 block of E. Marine View Drive, Bryant said.

The man died at the scene of the crash, Bryant said. The cause of the man’s death is under investigation by the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office. His name was not released Sunday.

The wreck was reported at 1:37 p.m. Sunday. No one else was hurt.

McCord inquest rescheduled: An inquest into the death of fugitive Harold McCord Jr. has been rescheduled for April 29 in King County Superior Court.

The inquest was originally scheduled for May 3, said Dan Donahoe, a spokesman for the King County Prosecutor’s Office.

McCord was shot June 24 in a police raid at a Monroe apartment and died at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. An official review of his death was ordered by King County Executive Ron Sims because McCord died in that county.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 5.

McCord, who faced life in prison under the state’s three-strikes law, escaped from the Pierce County courthouse the day before the Monroe police raid by flashing a fake gun. The phony gun was found by investigators after the courthouse escape.
