EVERETT – Police Monday night were questioning a man and a woman following the suspicious death of another man in the 3600 block of Lombard Avenue.
An Everett police officer was assisting medics from the Everett Fire Department about 6:15 p.m. who were giving cardiopulmonary resuscitation to a man inside an apartment, Everett Lt. Ted Olafson said Monday night.
The man, who was about 50 years old, died at the scene.
Other Everett officers arrived to assist. One officer and a neighbor, both outside the building, noticed a man in the apartment attempting to climb out a bedroom window, Olafson said.
Then the man went back inside the apartment, and shortly afterward, a fire broke out in the room, he said. Officers rushed to fight the flames, putting them out with a fire extinguisher.
Officers found the man inside the apartment. The woman, who had called 911, was also inside, Olafson said. Both men and the woman are believed to be roommates.
The cause of the man’s death is not known, pending the medical examiner’s investigation.
Several Everett officers were exposed to smoke and the contents of the dry chemical extinguisher, but none requested treatment, Olafson said.
