EVERETT — Police arrested 18-year-old Bryan Hernandez-Ramirez on Tuesday in connection with a December fatal shooting in the Silver Lake neighborhood in south Everett.
Around 7:30 p.m. Dec. 11, officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1700 block of 121st Street Southeast. They found a 42-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Major Crimes Unit detectives have been investigating the case since December. At 11 a.m. Tuesday, members of the Anti-Crime Team and Violent Crime Unit took Hernandez-Ramriez into custody and booked him into Snohomish County Jail on suspicion of second-degree murder.
Hernandez-Ramirez made his first court appearance on Wednesday. Everett District Court Pro Tem Judge David Ruzumna found probable cause on two murder charges. He set bail at $2 million at the prosecution’s request.
Hernandez-Ramirez’s attorney requested bail be set at $50,000, noting that he was 17 at the time of the alleged offense. The attorney added that he turned 18 three weeks ago, remains dependent on his parents and cannot afford any bail.
Deputy prosecutor William Doyle said he believed the suspect would be extremely dangerous to the public if released from jail.
“The defendant also had concerning conversations on his social media about how he hated gay people. The victim of this case was a gay man,” Doyle said. “There is concern that this could have also been a motivation for the killing.”
Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the Everett Police Department tip line at (425) 257-8450 or Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound at 1-800-222-TIPS.
