Everett school officials have decided to reopen Jackson Elementary School on Tuesday, following a swine flu scare.
The school is closed today because a student has a suspected case of swine flu.
Over the weekend, district officials told parents the school would likely remain closed until mid-week, but they decided to open earlier at the advice of the Snohomish Health District, Everett School District spokeswoman Mary Waggoner said.
“Their directives have changed because the flu virus seems to be less serious than thought at first and because health officials understand the challenge posed for families when schools are closed,” Waggoner wrote in a letter to parents.
Staff at Jackson is meeting today to discuss swine flu and how to identify the virus in students.
Students who have a fever, sore throat and cough should stay home, Waggoner said. Kids with those symptoms who come to school will be sent to the health room until their parents arrive to pick them up.
