EVERETT – Frequent bus riders are invited to speak at an Everett City Council meeting tonight to help council members decide whether to change fares on city buses.
If the plan is approved, each ride on an Everett Transit bus will cost 50 cents. There will be no more paper transfers; riders would pay the same fare each time they board a bus.
The current fare is 75 cents, for a ticket that includes transfers during a 90-minute ride period.
Rides on ParaTransit buses, which offers door-to-door service for disabled Everett residents, would cost $1 each. Those rides are currently free to riders, but cost Everett Transit $29 each.
Last year, ParaTransit made about 92,000 trips to transport more than 1,600 people, Everett Transit Director Paul Kaftanski said.
Public meetings have been held throughout the city over the past month to discuss the proposed changes.
The Everett City Council will meet at 6:30 tonight at council chambers at 3002 Wetmore Ave.
