YAKIMA — The father of an 8-year-old girl with Down syndrome is suing the Yakima School District, alleging his daughter was repeatedly molested by another student on a special needs school bus.
The Yakima Herald-Republic said the suit filed last week alleges the district and bus driver were negligent, failed to supervise and did not protect the girl on the bus. The lawsuit says bus cameras caught multiple incidents of alleged assault.
District spokeswoman Jennifer Baird on Monday declined to comment on the lawsuit or answer other questions about the case.
The lawsuit filed by the Tamaki Law firm says the girl arrived home with bruises and scratches in March 2014 and her family notified school officials. The suit says state and Yakima police investigated, and the bus driver was suspended for two days.
A spokeswoman with the state Department of Social and Health Services declined comment, citing confidentiality laws.
