EVERETT — Visitors to Jetty Island on Saturday may have stayed longer than they planned after the ferry broke down. Island-goers were moved back to the mainland on police boats and other smaller vessels.
Park staff estimated that about 1,000 people were on the island when the ferry was disabled around 1:15 p.m. A line reportedly got wrapped around the boat’s propeller.
A larger-than-normal crowd was visiting the popular summer hang-out, likely taking part in the Schack Art Center’s Float Find event. No injuries were reported.
The ferry is expected to be back in service Sunday morning for regular hours.
