The Steilacoom II ferry is scheduled to resume service tonight on the Whidbey Island-Port Townsend route with a sailing out of Port Townsend at 6:45 p.m.
Customers who have reservations for evening sailings were to receive priority loading, Washington State Ferries officials said. All others were to be loaded on a first-come, first-served basis.
Service was canceled earlier today after an electronic control unit for the boat’s auxiliary generator malfunctioned, officials said. Crews were able to make the repairs earlier than anticipated, ferry officials said.
The state rented the Steilacoom II from Pierce County after the 1927-vintage Steel Electric class of ferries was permanently taken out of service.
