EVERETT — The fourth and final defendant in a 2010 home invasion robbery at an apartment on W. Casino Road was sentenced to nearly 3 1/2 years in prison.
Kendall Hutchins tried to convince a judge Tuesday that he wasn’t armed with a gun or wearing a ski mask when he and three other people forced their way into an apartment on Oct. 26, 2010. He claimed that he simply was in the wrong place with the wrong people. He denied knowing ahead of time that a robbery was going to take place.
Several people were held at gunpoint and one man was hit over the head with his own crutch while the robbers rifled through their belongings, taking jewelry and other valuables, according to court documents. Witnesses reported that Hutchins was armed and grabbed one of the victims by the throat and held a gun to her head, court papers said.
Hutchins and three others eventually pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery.
Snohomish County Superior Court Judge Ronald Castleberry told Hutchins that he didn’t buy his story.
“You may want to minimize presently all of your involvement, but it’s clear you were involved 100 percent,” Castleberry said.
Earlier this year, co-defendant Jeffery Barquet was sentenced to nearly 5 years in prison. Two other co-defendants, Tyler Thomas and Tina Derrah, both were sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison.
