MARYSVILLE — A man escaped a fire that damaged his home Friday morning in Marysville.
The man had been using a stainless steel washing machine drum as a fire pit on his back deck Thursday evening, Marysville Fire District spokeswoman Christie Veley said. He used water to douse the flames and went to bed.
Investigators suspect the fire rekindled.
The man awoke around 2:15 a.m. because of noise from a power outage. The house on 101st Place NE was on fire. Crews arrived around 2:30 a.m. The flames climbed the side of the single-story home and spread into the attic, Veley said.
Damage was estimated at $60,000. No injuries were reported.
