STANWOOD — A fire in Stanwood on Saturday caused $70,000 in damage to a shop and residence.
The fire broke out about 3 a.m. in the 4000 block of 268th Street NW, said Christian Davis, a battalion chief with North County Regional Fire Authority. The building was a small shop with an apartment inside.
Responding crews found heavy smoke coming from the building. They extinguished the fire in about 30 minutes, Davis said.
The building is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“The building had no working smoke detectors, and this could have been a lot worse had someone been asleep inside,” Davis said.
