Snohomish County Fire District 7 recruit John Rouse graduated from the Washington State Patrol Fire Academy on Nov. 6. Rouse was one of 15 newly hired firefighters from throughout Washington that attended the 400 hours of training at the Fire Academy in North Bend.
Rouse and two others were recognized at the graduation with the First Due Engine Company award. The honor, which was voted on by the instructors, is for the three firefighters who they would place on the first arriving engine at a fire scene.
Rouse graduated in 2006 from Meadowdale High, where he participated in the Scriber Lake Fire Program. He will finish his post-academy training at Fire District 7 and will start on shift as a probationary firefighter in December. Rouse was hired in July to fill a vacant position.
In addition, newly promoted Lt. Dave Swearingen participated in the training academy. He was required to perform the duties of a company officer during a recruit academy within the first year of being promoted. As a lieutenant, Swearingen will be responsible for supervising the daily operations and duties of shift personnel at the fire station level.
