Everett firefighters did something pretty awesome Saturday that I wanted to point out: they saved a man’s restored ’69 Chevrolet.
I was working yesterday handling the weekend shift. That means I’m the only reporter on duty and I have to keep my ear glued to the police scanner. Around 1:30 p.m
., I heard chatter about smoke billowing out from under the eaves of a house on Sunset Lane, in the View Ridge Neighborhood.
No one was home when firefighters showed up. They had to bust down the door to get in and fight the fire brewing in the attic. Later, I talked to Joe Johnston, the battalion chief on duty. He said even though the fire was knocked down quickly, total damage to the home was around $170,000. He mentioned one bright spot: firefighters were able to save the homeowner’s prized project car in the garage.
