SEATTLE — The Washington Department of Transportation says it has closed two Cascade Mountain passes because of heavy snow and increasing avalanche danger from a strong fall storm.
Chinook and Cayuse passes closed at midday Tuesday. There was no estimate when they might reopen.
Chinook and Cayuse are two of several Washington mountain passes that close each year for the winter.
National Weather Service forecasters say the storm that brought snow to the mountains and high winds and heavy rains to the Western Washington lowlands will ease for a short break today.
