PORT ORCHARD — A stolen credit card used at a convenience store and a traffic stop in Everett have helped authorities solve a burglary that netted more than $1 million worth of items from a home overlooking Hood Canal. Five people have been arrested and about $500,000 worth of property has been recovered.
Two women were arraigned Monday on burglary and theft charges in Kitsap County Superior Court. Three other people were being held in Snohomish County after an investigation by Kitsap County sheriff’s detectives.
The burglars who hit the home just west of Silverdale earlier this month took jewelry, clothing, credit cards and a laptop computer, loading some of the loot into a 2008 Cadillac, which was also taken.
Jacquelyn A. Elzea, 20, and Lori Jo Devier, 51, both of Everett, have been charged with residential burglary and first-degree theft. At their arraignment, Superior Court Judge Jay Roof doubled the pair’s bail amount to $200,000 each.
A 24-year-old man, a 19-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, all of Everett were held at the Snohomish County jail on unrelated charges, Kitsap County sheriff’s spokesman Scott Wilson said.
Detectives caught a break when one of the suspects is accused of using one of the stolen credit cards at a convenience store, Wilson said. That person’s photo was captured on a surveillance camera.
The 24-year-old man and Elzea were arrested Jan. 19 by Everett police after eluding officers, Wilson said. The Jeep the 24-year-old was driving was apparently stolen, and inside, police found property that matched items taken in the Hood Canal burglary, Wilson said.
