Mill Creek’s new top cop: The city has hired Greg Elwin as its next police chief.
The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office captain commands patrol and the civil division in Olympia.
Elwin will replace former Police Chief Bob Crannell who announced plans to retire last year. The new chief is expected to start by March 1.
Mill Creek, a city of almost 19,000, is policed by 26 officers.
Snohomish looks at cell tower rules: The city’s Planning Commission has scheduled a public hearing on updating regulations for cell towers and wireless communications at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Snohomish School District administration offices,1601 Avenue D.
The commission is expected to recommend new rules for wireless communication to the City Council after the hearing.
The review of the rules comes after Verizon Wireless withdrew its request to put a cell tower in Averill Park last year following opposition from some Snohomish residents. The regulations have been in place with few changes since 1998

Before the hearing, people can submit written comments to City Hall email them to dennison@snohomishwa.gov.
Sultan considers expansion: The City Council has scheduled a public hearing at 7 p.m. Thursday on a proposed annexation of property along 124th St. SE.
The council expects to take action after the hearing at City Hall, 319 Main St.
